DESCRIPTION: France, large and impressive gilt bronze figural mantel clock, love themed, and replete with classical ornament, with male and female figures flanking the architectural clock case, the winged male representing Cupid and holding a wreath aloft in his right hand, the top of clock case with floral wreaths joined with a bowknot and ornate cornucopia, the base with applied relief castings of Cupid and Psyche, all on large cast feet with engine turned ornament, Roman numeral white enamel dial signed "Joignerey a Paris", and with finely detailed gilt bezel, blued steel Breguet style hands, 8 days, time and strike, pendule a Paris movement with silk thread suspension, bell signed "Beaubier", case with glazed rear cover, c1820
CONDITION: Gilding good overall, dirty and with minor marks and losses, a few small spots of verdigris, female figure missing ornament originally held in her right hand, screw holding wreath in Cupids hand replaced, bow-knot tying two wreaths together with break, dial dirty but good; will clean OK, hands good, front bezel glass missing, ticks and strikes, Ht 22 1/2"
